Hello!

I was asked whether there were/could be enemies to fight. I'm perfectly happy for there to be occasional bursts of violence/battle with versions of enemies fought in the past.

So, for instance, there may suddenly be a hurlock attack, or a husk, or a demon, or rock wraith, or even high dragon. There is something "off" about these creatures, however. They are not like the demons of the Fade people would be expecting. They feel like shadows, or constructs, rather than the real thing.

I'd prefer we wait until at least this weekend for any attacks to start, just so characters can be reasonably settled before we give them reason to worry.

Please note: Every time you have an attack, please announce it first in OOC so other people can be aware and respond as needed, even if it's just a tiny localized battle in an already existing thread. If it's something BIG, please give an OOC warning at least a day in advance.

Jäger is his name and he is the dog the Warden saved in Ostagar and met again afterwards, near Lothering. He is an old drooling lazy dog and will, most likely, run all over the place sniffing everything, everywhere and everyone.

Feel free to find things drooled, chewed or peed.
Jäger is mostly docile, but avoid any sudden movements near him, his eyesight isn't what it used to be anymore. He is still a good hound and a good guard, he can warn people of weird shit just before it happen and will gladly accept petting and treats as a reward.

It will totally shock anyone who played Origins through that Zevran is one big sneaky mofo. (*gasp*, right?) Well, just because he helped defeat an archdemon doesn't mean he's done sneaking around.

Zevran has decided that announcing himself isn't really his style and that he'll learn far more--and potentially score a tactical advantage if the shit hits the fan--by keeping out of sight and trying to eavesdrop where he can. Plus, it's like an insta-soap opera watching all the drama and sexual tension fly.

Feel free to have moments of paranoid "someone is following me/watching me", because it's a good bet he is. I won't have him overhear anything specifically unless I get permission, however. Highly observant characters may notice dust settle or the occasional other subtle signs of a Crow in the rafters. Cole, of course, knows he is there. Zevran asks you to please not give up his game just yet.

Anyone observing Alistair may think the poor guy has an invisible friend or a case of the crazies, as Zevran likes to make Alistair yelp at inopportune times, but that is up to the Alistair player to decide. Occasionally as you explore Skyhold, you may run across evidence of someone having slept in abandoned rooms, attics, or even on roofs.

If you haven't played a game like this in a long time, this primer is for you! There are a few different ways to do rps. You can have:

1) A one-on-one rp. This is fairly self-explanatory. It's considered a little rude to jump into a thread without permission. It's also a little rude to just start a thread without asking the other person if they're up for it. (Don't worry if you slip up now and again, as we all get super excited! But generally it's a good idea to ask.)

2) A small group rp. This is when you have three or more people in a thread. It is usually easiest to establish a playing order unless one of the players knows he or she won't be around much. In that case, they can stay outside the established order and jump in whenever they're able. As long as everyone agrees, all is awesome.

3) A large group rp. These get tricky! It's really hard to wrangle more than four people for a scene, so often the best way to play these sorts of scenes (like the tavern scene!) is to break it down into individual threads. So, for instance, Marian and Anders are talking. Someone can ask to join their thread, and they can treat it like a three-person thread. Isabela can start her own reply chain further down, and someone can respond to her as if it were its own separate rp. You can have multiple threads in one large group rp, as it's assumed people move about to mingle and time passes.

As always, if you have questions, let me know! :D

Oh, as a brief reminder: the NPCs aren't actually there. (So Cullen's soldiers, the random people living in Skyhold, etc.) The castle is big and weirdly quiet since there are so few people. I've seen a couple of references to NPCs and made a couple myself (oops!) so I though a reminder was needed. (But really, it's a relaxed game, so don't worry about slip-ups.)

So, something interesting happened in a thread, and since we're taking a kind of "why not!" approach to things, we're going to try running with it.

You know how sometimes in these sorts of games, the timeline gets a little screwed up as you play in different threads using the same character? Well, now you have the option of explaining those snarls as an echo.

Basically, in this strange Fade/not-Fade, sometimes an echo of a character can appear. This echo is exactly like its original self and says/does everything the original would have done. This means that, for instance, Neria can be in a scene with Varric and have written in the journal on one hand while having run across Cullen and Alistair with no knowledge of the rest of the castle or the journal on the other.

One of those Nerias is an echo. It will eventually dissipate, most likely when she is alone. Whichever Neria is the original version won't know or remember anything about what happened in her echo's scene until she goes to sleep. When she wakes up, either:

1) The memories merge and she remembers both scenes, or
2) The memories try to merge and she forgets both scenes, or
3) The memories of the echo fade and she only remembers the original scene.

This gives you a lot to play around with with memory and self and general spookiness of this place. It also detangles some of the threads that accidentally overlap!

Okay, one: we already have the most incredible cast of characters here. I am seriously dying every time someone posts.

Two: If there is a character you particularly want to see--either in your AU or just in general--go ahead and name them here! Someone may very well be inspired!

Don't forget to join the community once you make a journal (go here and click "join community" to do that!), and check to make sure all of your posts are going into the fadewalk community and not your personal journal. If you post in your personal journal, we won't be able to see anything.

'Shipping isn't necessary to gameplay, but it can be fun! If you'd like to 'ship but don't have anything lined up, reply here with a description of your character and what you're looking for. Who knows? Someone may take you up on the offer!

Kaidanmod and Varricmod are "mod characters"--meaning, if you need someone to step in for any reason, they can do so. Just come here and ask!

To claim a character, simply reply to this post with the character name, a very brief description of their universe, a name for that universe, and whether it is open for other players to join.

For instance:

Varric
Varric comes from the "ground zero" Dragon Age Inquisition universe. He's from the end of the game after the defeat of Corypheus. Cassandra is Divine, Hawke is dead, and Blackwall is a Grey Warden.
This is the "Ground Zero" universe. It is open for others to join.

Or:

Cullen
Cullen comes from a modern day AU. He lives in New York and works a member of the NYPD. He's been in love with a girl on the force with him for years.
This is the "NYC Blues" universe. It is open for others to join.

ETA: Periodically, I will go through and clean up the threads, listing them here instead. If you see "Eluvian" next to a name, it means the character is claimed and is in play but is currently missing in action. If you have Eluvian by your character's name and want to become active again, just reply here to let me know you're back in the swing of things, then post your triumphant return. I will remove the "Eluvian" from your name.

Thanks to some unknown magic exploding from inside a now-broken eluvian, Skyhold Castle has been unmoored from the Frostbacks and dragged into a version of the Fade. All of the castle is available for exploration/gameplay. (Please assume it has extensive grounds/fields/and orchards to the back of the castle, plus as many additional rooms as you, the player, require.) The Normandy from ME3 is parked in the “back yard” right before the orchards begin. It is currently broken beyond repair/unable to move, and the shuttles are missing. Otherwise, it is also fair game.

Currently, all characters are stuck in Skyhold. Beyond its walls is a sudden drop into an abyss. The sky is heavy with stormclouds, but otherwise, the weather is clear, there is plenty of air, and there don’t appear to be any demons or spirits lurking around. Yet.
