If you haven't played a game like this in a long time, this primer is for you! There are a few different ways to do rps. You can have:

1) A one-on-one rp. This is fairly self-explanatory. It's considered a little rude to jump into a thread without permission. It's also a little rude to just start a thread without asking the other person if they're up for it. (Don't worry if you slip up now and again, as we all get super excited! But generally it's a good idea to ask.)

2) A small group rp. This is when you have three or more people in a thread. It is usually easiest to establish a playing order unless one of the players knows he or she won't be around much. In that case, they can stay outside the established order and jump in whenever they're able. As long as everyone agrees, all is awesome.

3) A large group rp. These get tricky! It's really hard to wrangle more than four people for a scene, so often the best way to play these sorts of scenes (like the tavern scene!) is to break it down into individual threads. So, for instance, Marian and Anders are talking. Someone can ask to join their thread, and they can treat it like a three-person thread. Isabela can start her own reply chain further down, and someone can respond to her as if it were its own separate rp. You can have multiple threads in one large group rp, as it's assumed people move about to mingle and time passes.

As always, if you have questions, let me know! :D

Oh, as a brief reminder: the NPCs aren't actually there. (So Cullen's soldiers, the random people living in Skyhold, etc.) The castle is big and weirdly quiet since there are so few people. I've seen a couple of references to NPCs and made a couple myself (oops!) so I though a reminder was needed. (But really, it's a relaxed game, so don't worry about slip-ups.)

"It's also a little rude to just start a thread without asking the other person if they're up for it."

I think it should probably be noted that "Open to All" posts generally negate this policy, in case there's any confusion about that? Since they're basically open invites to thread at will.

Thank you! Yes, you are absolutely right.

And in case it's not clear, if something says "Open" and no one else has repped, it is open for you to reply to the rp without asking. If a thread has someone's name in the subject line, it means it is intended to be a private rp.

This is really helpful! I made the mistake of RP'ing and writing fic at the same time... probably shouldn't do that! ;)
