"Look at this book, it's probably a demon's trap. Let's write in it!" Yes, Dorian, this is one of your best ideas yet. Write in the demon journal for no other reason than to satisfy your own curiosity. You haven't learned anything.

I amend: Write to yourself in the demon journal. That's better.

[A tiny detailed drawing of a passive two-terminal electrical component used to store energy in an electric field appears in the journal underneath the conversation...with a built in alarm clock?]

It's eezo...element zero. I wouldn't try making armor or jewelry out of it - it has a tendency to [sketch of explosive glowing blue shockwave (with tiny hermit-crab-lizard thing flying off into the distance).]

The brains mind if I step in?
I can't really sleep, so I could use some distraction and this subject is very interesting.
Element Zero you say? What are the usual applications of it?

[There is an atomic diagram scribbled next to what looks like a textbook passage copied from memory: "Element Zero is a elemental metal that releases an energy field when subjected to an electrical current, which is used to manipulate the mass of all objects within that field."]

Eezo's used to generate artificial gravity, manufactur high-strength construction materials, and most commonly, faster-than-light space travel. Without causing time dilation. Which is not a pleasant experience.

It's also a mutagenic. Children of some species develop biotics when exposed to eezo dust. Or cancer, though the Council rarely talks about that aspect.

Space travel? This is something really amazing. As you may have noticed, we don't have anything like that here.
Your eezo do resembles our lyrium, at least on its appearance.

[A draw of a light-blue glowing stone is made]

Lyrium has many aplications here and it's a very interesting mineral. It's toxic to everyone, save for the dwarves, and can attune your connection to the Fade. That's why it's harmless to the dwarves, unless when it suddenly blows, without warning. Mages can drink lyrium potions to recover their lost magical energy during a battle and templars can drink it to power their magic disrupting skills. With lyrium and a certain ritual, it's possible for a mage to enter the Fade consciously.

Fade travel sounds equally as complicated as space travel. Is that where we are now, the Fade?

Does lyrium make unfortunate lab equipment levitate if it's not properly contained? I hear that's a common problem in eezo laboratories...

Oh, no, it certainly doesn't make things levitated... not without powerful magic involved.

[she draws a little person with pointy ears, and then she draws what should propably be their spirit]

You see, there is the material world, the place where we are born, raised and live. This world is separeted from the Fade by a invisible barrier we call The Veil, this way, people and spirit/demons will be appart. When an elf, or a human, or a qunari sleeps, their consciousness go for a walk in the Fade, that's why we also call it the dream realm. If said elf/human/qunari happens to be a mage, they can keep their consciousness while in the Fade and control their dreams to a certain point.

But still, to enter the Fade physically isn't common. You need powerful magic to tear open a hole in the Veil, so, to bring this whole fortress would require a amount so large of magic I can't even wrap my mind on it. It's simply off anything we have ever seen.

Kaidan and I were both exposed to eezo and developed biotics. If you're interested, maybe we could do a demonstration? We're not as strong as an Asari, but we're pretty good for a pair of humans. If anyone is around that can do the magic you're talking about, I'd like to see that, too.

Oh, that's just fascinating. I am a mage myself, so we could probably share such demonstrations. We should meet somewhere.

I wish I could. But likely not without triple-filtering and at best a minor allergic reaction.

Now that is a tragedy. But I'm certain we can find other ways to amuse ourselves, especially if you're willing to tell me more about these designs you have been drawing. Fascinating work. I can already see so many applications toward my own research.

They're just doodles. The electronic databases didn't always load correctly on some of the older ships. It was helpful to have little talent in sketching.

They're just doodles to you because your technology is so far beyond my own, but to me, they--and you--are marvels.

[A long line of angular symbols that are scratched out and replaced with:]

Apparently your technology is father along than the rest of this...Thedas. I doubt everything I've drawn is a marvel you haven't even seen me.

But if I ever manage to get the doors of the Normandy working so I don't have to crawl through the maintenance ducts the whole time, we could compare ideas.
